I regretted my words an hour later as I stood offstage and watched the band perform. The roadies were all pointing and laughing, not to mention the security guards I'd hired. Fucking traitors. That wasn't the worst of it though.

No, the worst part was how heavy the damn bag was getting as it hung from my shoulder with the deadweight of a sleeping dog inside. For a Chihuahua, Ruffles was pretty solid—a fact I hadn't fully appreciated until I'd held him like this for a length of time.

I couldn't regret the view I had from there, though. Watching Toby prance around the stage while he belted his heart out was a thing of beauty. Whatever problems the band had, they apparently left them at the edge of the stage and put their all into the show.

Troubles was one hell of a band. The combined talents of the six of them meshed well, and the music was the proof. It was too bad they couldn't work as well offstage as they did on it. That wasn't Toby's fault, though. There wasn’t shit he could do about petty jealousies and all the other bullshit that went on behind his back.
